How often should I check my tyres?

We recommend checking your tyres around once a month and before any long journey.  Checks should include checking the air pressure, tread depth and overall condition of the tyre.  If you don't have a tread depth gauge, you can even Check your Tyres with a 20p piece, if in any doubt though, just call in and we'll check them for you.

How will I know that my Tyres are ready for replacing?

When your tread depth wears down to around 3mm, you will notice that your tyres don't grip as well as they did and this is the time you should start to consider changing them.  Legally, it's not until the tread depth wears down to 1.6mm that you must change your tyres in order to be safe and legal on the road. Fines for illegal tyres can be as much as £2,500 per tyre, so if all four of your tyres are illegal not only are you very unsafe on the road, you could also be looking at a very hefty fine! Other reasons for replacing your tyres could be punctures that we aren't able to repair, old tyres which have developed cracks in the rubber & perished and tyres that have cuts or bulges. If you're not sure, just call into your nearest Eden Tyres & Servicing for a FREE no-obligation check.

Where can I find my Tyre Size?

All vehicles have different tyre sizes.  If you need to get a quote on your tyres the most accurate way to do this is by checking what tyre size your vehicle is currently fitted with and using this size to get a quote from. You will find your tyre size imprinted in the rubber on the side of your tyre. Do bear in mind that some vehicles such as BMW's & Mercedes have different sized tyres on the rear to the front so always check the exact tyre you'd like replacing. The size is shown as a 7 digit number followed by a number and letter which refers to your load and speed rating ie. 205/55R16 91V. The load and speed rating vary from vehicle to vehicle and depend on the weight of the vehicle and the engine size.  If you struggle to find the size, just give us a Call and we'll guide you through it.

I've been told that Tyres now come with an EU rating, how does this help me?

Since November 2012, all tyres sold have to have an EU Tyre Label which scores the tyre on wet braking, fuel efficiency and external noise.  This label was designed to help you as the consumer make a more informed choice when it comes to choosing tyres for your vehicle.  Find out more about the EU Tyre Label here.
