Car Brake Checks & Replacement
Your car brakes are vital for vehicle safety. As all brake components wear and deteriorate over time, it’s essential that you get your car brakes checked regularly. We offer free brake safety inspections in all our branches, ensuring you and your passengers remain safe on the road.
Signs your brakes need replacing
There are a few tell tale signs that may mean your car brakes need looking at:
- Dashboard warning light
- Grinding sensation/noise
- Squeaking brakes
- Pulsating or Juddering brakes
- Pulling to one side when braking
- Sponginess in the brake pedal
- Brakes don’t feel as responsive
If you experience signs your brakes need changing or are concerned about your vehicle’s braking system, we’d recommend booking a free brake check. You can book a brake check online or by calling your local Eden Tyres & Servicing branch. As we need your vehicle to be on a lift for the brake inspection, we would always recommend booking so we have a brake technician and lift available for you on arrival.
Remember, getting your brakes checked regularly or when you first notice a change in performance will not only keep you safe but also help prevent a more costly repair bill.
What happens during a brake check?
On arrival, a member of the team will discuss why you want a brake check and take note of any problems or concerns you have.
We will then put your vehicle on a lift, so a technician can carry out an inspection of all visible parts of your vehicle’s braking system. The technician will look at the condition of your brake discs and measure the thickness of your brake pads. We will also check when the vehicle last had a brake fluid change. Once the inspection is complete, we will talk to you about our findings and, if necessary, supply you with a quote for brake replacement or repairs.
We can carry out the brake check while you wait or, if you’d prefer, you can leave your vehicle with us. Depending on our workshop bookings we may even be able to carry out replacement on the same day. Please note, all quotes are no-obligation so you’ll be able to consider our advice and book in at a later date if you prefer.
Having a brake fluid change.
You should have a brake fluid change around every 2 years. Brake fluid plays a crucial role in your car’s braking system. When you press the brake pedal, it transfers the force to the brake fluid, which then transmits that force to the brake components at each wheel. This hydraulic system amplifies the force, allowing your car to stop effectively.
One important characteristic of brake fluid is its incompressibility. This ensures that when you apply the brakes, the force is evenly distributed, and there’s a direct transfer of pressure to the brake calipers or wheel cylinders, leading to the clamping of brake pads or shoes onto the brake discs or drums.
It’s essential to have the right type of brake fluid for your vehicle and to maintain the proper fluid level. Brake fluid can absorb moisture over time, which can lead to a decrease in its effectiveness. Regularly checking and replacing the brake fluid helps maintain optimal brake performance and ensures your car stops when you need it to.
Signs you need a brake fluid change
A common sign your brake fluid needs changing will be that your brake pedal feels spongy, and your car takes longer to stop. However, this isn’t always the case which is why vehicle manufacturers recommend a brake fluid change every 2 years. If you have your car serviced regularly, you’ll generally get reminded if your brake fluid is due for a change.
How much does a brake fluid change cost?
A brake fluid change costs £44.95 Inc. labour and VAT. This includes a full flush and clean of the hydraulic braking system and is recommended every 2 years.
