Our retail operations manager Jon Tagg celebrates 18 years working for ETS this month!
We asked him a few questions about his career in the motor industry.
ETS: What made you choose to work in the motor industry?
JT: I’ve always liked cars and messing about with nuts and bolts and getting dirty.
ETS: How long have you worked for Eden Tyres & Servicing?
JT: I’ve worked here for 18 years
ETS: How has your career progressed?
JT: I started working for ETS as branch manager at Ripley. I was there for 9 years, then moved onto the new Giltbrook branch. After 2 years there I moved onto to next new branch which was Sutton where I stayed for 7 years. This year I got promoted to retail operations manager which is an exciting change from always being based in a branch.
ETS: Have you worked at other garages? If so, please tell us about what you did and what that was like?
JT: I started as an apprentice at Selston motors, then Wrightway Tyres, Kwikfit, National tyres, and Just Tyres. All were run very differently so I got a lot of valuable experience and knowledge from each one.
ETS: Why did you choose to work for Eden Tyres & Servicing?
JT: A friend of mine had just started working for them and told me about the mangers position at Ripley. He said what a good family run business it was and the rest is history as they say.
ETS: What do you most enjoy about your job and your work in the service and repair sector?
JT: It can be a very challenging job with lots of different situations to deal with every day. I would say what I enjoy is when you have a problem and you can’t seem to solve but you and your colleagues put your minds together and between you, the problem gets sorted and the customer goes away happy. It’s rewarding to be able to turn a negative situation into a positive one and we are all constantly focused on ensuring our customers are happy.
ETS: How do you think ETS differs from other garages offering similar services?
JT: I think one of the main differences with ETS to other garages is we are very customer focused and we try and treat everyone fairly and equally. We aim to be very good at customer service and try and rectify any problems as quickly as possible.
ETS: What are your career highlights?
JT: When I 1st got given the keys to Giltbrook, I felt proud that the Eden family trusted me with a new branch in such a key location. Then when I got my promotion to retail operations manager. My new role is a real challenge and very different from working in a branch but I’m really enjoying it. I get to work across all 17 branches, ensuring they have everything they need to operate well and solving any problems they come up against. It’s a challenging role but one I feel I’m in a great position to take on with my past experience.
